The sixth-generation Fujifilm X100VI Digital Camera Silver is the latest iteration of the highly popular X Series compact camera. Building on the tremendous success of its predecessor Fujifilm has enhanced the new model with extensive updates to image quality and performance while maintaining a familiar iconic design and keeping the same beautiful 23mm f/2 lens.
Fujifilm has included the new high-resolution 40.2 megapixel X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR sensor which was first seen in the X-T5 and X-H2. This is combined with the powerful X-Processor 5 image processing engine delivering higher image quality deeper buffering and overall enhanced performance.
An image stabilisation system has been incorporated into the X100VI which is seen for the first time in an X100 series camera. This provides up to 6.0-stops of stabilisation despite maintaining the compact size and portability of its predecessor helping with low light and handheld shooting in a variety of conditions.
Notable improvements have been made to the AF system through the addition of deep learning AI subject detection and tracking which recognises numerous subjects for both stills and movie recording.
The latest generation compact camera is also better for moviemaking with up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording and high-speed 4K and Full HD modes. Versatile connectivity includes an HDMI Micro connector microphone jack and hot shoe for select Fujifilm compatible flashguns along with Bluetooth and WiFi for remote control and file sharing via the Fuji Camera Remote app.
With 20 Film Simulation modes the X100VI introduces the unique REALA ACE colour profile showcasing Fujifilm’s enviable colour science for content creators.

The X100VI features Fujifilm’s back-illuminated X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR sensor boasting around 40.2 megapixels for detailed images measuring up to 6864 x 5152 pixels. This sensor's advanced pixel structure efficiently captures more light than its predecessors enabling a lower native ISO 125 previously only available as extended sensitivity.
Coupled with the 23mm f/2.0 lens (with an equivalent full-frame focal width of 35mm) the X100VI produces sharp high-resolution images and is able to resolve higher resolution.
The 35mm full-frame equivalent fixed lens is inherited from the X100V. It provides stunning detail and resolution with a wide f/2.0 maximum aperture to gather light and enable image capture with a shallow depth of field.
Lens optics are comprised of 8 elements in 6 groups including 2 aspherical elements which help to reduce aberrations. A built-in 4-stop ND filter system allows you to control the amount of light entering the lens which is especially useful for recording video on bright days. The close 10cm minimum focus distance enhances the versatility of the lens which is also compatible with wide and tele adapter rings which are highlighted below.
Users can choose from a total of 20 Film Simulation modes (up from 17 in the previous generation). These include the new REALA ACE mode which offers faithful colour reproduction and high-contrast tonality making it suitable for virtually any subject and shooting situation. Check the post How To Get Started With Fujifilm Film Simulation if you’re new to using presets to capture beautiful results straight out of camera.
The X100VI sees the integration of an impressive autofocus prediction algorithm which provides enhanced subject recognition and focus tracking of continuously moving subjects in both stills and movie modes.
Leveraging the X-Processor 5's subject detection AF it accurately tracks various subjects aided by deep-learning AI technology and is able to detect animals birds cars motorcycles bicycles airplanes trains insects and drones. Please note that in order to detect insects subject recognition should be set to ‘bird’ and to ‘aircraft’ when tracking drones.
For the first time in an X100 series mirrorless compact camera the Fuji X100VI introduces a 5-axis in-body image stabilisation function with up to 6.0 stops of compensation against camera shake. Despite this advanced capability the size is virtually identical and the weight of the camera has only increased by around 43g compared to the previous generation.
In body stabilisation (IBIS) allows you to capture stills and video at slower shutter speeds while helping maintain image sharpness and movie stability without compromising on portability.
One of the X100 series hallmark features is Fujifilm’s Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder functionality which extends to the X100VI. This allows the user to switch between the optical viewfinder (OVF) and the electronic viewfinder (EVF) at will pursuing a rangefinder-style of photography.
The Electronic Range Finder (ERF) function displays a small EVF within the OVF enabling photographers to compose the subject through the OVF while magnifying the in-focus area in the EVF. This enhances the viewfinder's capabilities and is particularly beneficial for quick snapshots and similar everyday shooting scenarios.
The EVF boasts a high-resolution OLED panel with around 3.69 million dots enriching the shooting experience with a crystal clear 95% coverage of the frame in OVF and 100% in EVF.
Another first for the X100 series is the ability to record movies internally at up to 6.2K/30p resolution in 4:2:2 10-bit format. HEVC/H.265 Linear PCM (Stereo sound 24bit / 48KHz sampling) file formats provide ultra high resolution capabilities for professional movie results with wide dynamic range and plenty of detail.
Additionally the X100VI seamlessly integrates with Frame.io Camera to Cloud without requiring any accessories. Users can wirelessly connect to the internet authenticate to Frame.io and instantly upload photos and videos after creation streamlining your workflow from shooting to editing.
As well as opting for 6.2K users can record in DCI4K HQ (17:9) and 4K HQ (16:9) at 30p or DCI4K (17:9) and 4K (16:9) at 60p. Slow motion playback is also available with high frame rate recording at a maximum of Full HD at 240p. An SD memory card with UHS Speed Class 3 or higher should be used for movie recording. Self timer delay is now available for both stills and movie recording adding to the many incremental enhancements updated for this generation.
As its predecessor the X100VI in Silver utilises aluminium for the top and bottom surfaces of the camera. Aluminium known for its versatile formability is pressed and machined to achieve sharp edges while the surface is finely blasted resulting in a smooth texture. In addition anodised aluminium is used on the surface to provide a high-quality appearance.
Ergonomics has been improved through the grip's shape which is adjusted for optimal comfort when handholding the camera. The rear buttons have also been strategically relocated for easier operation with the right hand ensuring greater comfort during shooting while using the viewfinder.
The X100VI inherits the ultra-thin tilt LCD monitor from the X100V which is capable of lying completely flat against the rear panel although the newer model is able to flip out 45º rather than 30º. This integrated body design supports diverse shooting styles accommodating both high and low angles without fuss. The high touch-response performance and intuitive operation also make this a highly functional and beautiful camera to shoot with.
The X100VI includes the same connectivity as its predecessor with numerous options for content creation app control and sharing via:
For stills photography 40.2 megapixel images can be recorded at up to 11 frames per second when using the mechanical shutter or up to 20fps in electronic shutter mode with a 1.29x crop factor.
Despite substantially increased resolution the buffer has been extended to provide improvements with up to 117 frames in JPEG and 52 frames in Compressed RAW before becoming full up from 29/17 frames on the previous model.
Impressive low-light performance remains at -5.0EV with Phase Detection AF ensuring this camera ideal for various genres including street photography landscapes and naturally lit portraits amongst many more.
Even with the integration of a new sensor high speed processor and stabilisation unit the X100VI battery life has been slightly improved. In Economy mode using the EVF you can expect up to 450 frames from a single NP-W126S rechargeable battery which can be charged via the included USB-C cable.
Fujifilm has a range of accessories which can enhance your enjoyment and add to the versatility of the X100VI. Due to its nearly identical proportions and shared lens with the fifth-generation existing accessories seamlessly integrate with the Fujifilm X100VI which is a cost-saving bonus for anyone considering upgrading.
These include the ability to provide weather resistance when the optional AR-X100 adapter ring and Fujifilm Protector Filter PRF-49S Silver are used in conjunction with the 23mm f/2 lens. This provides the peace of mind to continue shooting when weather conditions become challenging whilst also enabling the attachment of filters and a lens hood.
The lightweight Fujifilm LH-X100 Lens Hood (Black) is also compatible which provides light shielding without obstructing the field of view when looking through the viewfinder.
Two conversion lenses are available which do not negatively affect image quality including the Fuji Wide Conversion Lens WCL-X100 II Silver which multiplies the fixed focal length by approx. 0.8x converting the lens to 28mm (35mm format equivalent). You can also extend the focal length of the lens with the backwards compatible Fujifilm Fuji Tele Conversion Lens TCL X100 II which multiplies the focal length by approx. 1.4x converting it to 50mm (35mm format equivalent).
Lastly consider the luxurious LC-X100V genuine leather case which offers protection while providing free access to the memory card and battery compartments.
